Pre-Gamin’: Cubs vs Giants (1:20 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

CUBS LINEUP — Today, the Cubs have a chance to win a three-game series for the first time in over a month (May 12 vs the Pirates, to be exact). I’d very much like to see them do that. Here’s the Cubs lineup for the finale at Wrigley Field.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Nico Hoerner, 2B
  2. Seiya Suzuki, RF
  3. Cody Bellinger, 1B
  4. Chris Morel, 3B
  5. Ian Happ, LF
  6. Dansby Swanson, SS
  7. Michael Busch, DH
  8. Miguel Amaya, C
  9. Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF

It took forever for the Giants to finally announce a starter for this afternoon’s finale at Wrigley Field, but they finally did and it’s Erik Miller (well, he’s more of an opener for a bullpen day, I’d guess). Nonetheless, the Cubs are going with a softer version of their versus-lefties lineup, which means Nico Hoerner is up top for the second day in a row (or maybe he’s just the new everyday leadoff man while Mike Tauchman is out…it’s probably that).

Notably, but understandably, Patrick Wisdom is not in the Cubs lineup, as he has been against most lefties this season. With Miller likely to go just 1-2 innings max, that makes sense offensively. But it also helps Craig Counsell prioritize defense with Kyle Hendricks on the mound (Bellinger at first, PCA in center field).

The DH duties, then, go to the scorching-hot Michael Busch.

San Francisco Giants Lineup:

  1. Brett Wisely, SS
  2. Heliot Ramos, CF
  3. Patrick Bailey, C
  4. Matt Chapman, 3B
  5. Michael Conforto, LF
  6. Jorge Soler, DH
  7. Mike Yastrzemski, RF
  8. Thairo Estrada, 2B
  9. Trenton Brooks, 1B

Pitching Matchup:

Chicago Cubs: Kyle Hendricks, RHP

Because of the injuries to both Ben Brown and Jordan Wicks, Kyle Hendricks finds himself back in the Cubs rotation. And that’s not exactly great news given how he’s pitched for most of the season. HOWEVER. However, Hendricks did come into relieve Wicks against the Cardinals, when Wicks left early with his injury, and actually did great: 4.1 IP, 2H, 0ER, 0BB, 1K. Obviously, there weren’t a lot of strikeouts, but there were also no walks and Hendricks induced a TON of groundballs and even more weak contact. It was his best performance of the year. I’ll take a repeat of that today, and nothing more. Lock it in right now. For what it’s worth, the Giants have been just about exactly league average against right-handed pitching for the season.

San Francisco Giants: Erik Miller, LHP

Erik Miller “started” against the Cubs his last time out, surrendering 3 earned runs on two hits, a walk, and a homer over 1.1 IP. I would take a repeat performance today, please and thanks.

I Absolutely LOVED Justin Steele Firing Up the Troops Today
