Quick roster move for the Cubs today, as Keegan Thompson returns from the Paternity List.
So, Thompson is back – role still TBD after one great late-inning appearance – and Luke Little heads down to Iowa to keep on working. This is what is meant by “up-down” guy, and it’s not a criticism of the skill. It’s simply a product of (1) the availability of minor league options, and (2) the need to continue developing. With Little, it is simply consistency. His delivery and size make him brutal on hitters, but also make it very difficult to consistently replicate the delivery and maximize command.
The move is a temporary reprieve for Porter Hodge, who was great yesterday, and is also in that up-down/still-developing category. He may not be around for too long, depending on what other injury/roster issues pop up, but I do love his stuff in this bullpen.
