The Cubs didn’t have a small lead to protect in the later innings, but otherwise, this one played the hits: the starting pitcher was great, the offense did precious little, the bullpen gave up a bunch late. I suppose the Cubs didn’t waste a lot of opportunities in this one – they simply didn’t create many. So that was different, too.
On the whole, though, it felt like the same ole mess.
Kyle Hendricks (the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game) took it to the Giants for his second straight start, and I kinda wish he could just face them exclusively the rest of the season. His mix, especially an uptick in the curveball, just really plays. What a wasted start.
