Remember when there were heated debates about the best shortstop in the city of Chicago? Well, now Javier Baez is slashing .183/.209/.247 (26 wRC+) with the Tigers and Tim Anderson was just designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins.
Tim Anderson DFA
Over the offseason, the White Sox made Tim Anderson a free agent by declining his option. But just a few months later, the Marlins rolled the dice on a one-year, $5M deal for the former Silver Slugger and 2x All-Star. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse for Anderson, who ends his Marlins career with a .214/.237/.226 slash line featuring NO homers, a 2.9% walk rate, and a 28.2% strikeout rate. Pretty horrible stuff.
The Marlins will now have seven days to trade, waive, or release Anderson, though I’m not sure what team will be itching to add him to their roster right now.
There’s no explicit Cubs connection or impact here, but Anderson is a familiar name around these parts, so I figured I’d write it up.
