A blowout win! The Cubs are still allowed to do that, it turns out!
Ian Happ is clearly an American patriot, because the dude loves having big games on the Fourth of July. You may remember last year’s installment where he threw out TWO Brewers runners at home to save and then win the game.
This year, it was two homers, one from each side of the plate, a double, a single, and six runs batted in. Huge game for Ian Happ, who continues to be successful at the plate at a time when very few Cubs are. Just a monster day.
There were other good performances offensively today, too, and everyone except Dansby Swanson had at least one hit. But Happ obviously stood out, so he’s your Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game.
Jameson Taillon pitched a good one today, got some good defensive help behind him, and continues to look like the best version of himself. Not sure what the immediate future holds for him, given that it’s possible the Cubs sell and it’s possible he has some real value, but regardless, I’m happy he’s pitching so well.
