A month after the NFL Draft, at the end of May, the public was informed about a clause in Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract addressing the left foot injury he sustained towards the end of the 2022 season. In the clause, it is said that Garoppolo waives all responsibility from the Raiders, NFL, and other related parties regarding his foot condition.
What this means is the Raiders can terminate the agreement with no further obligation if an issue with his previous injury were to arise, and the fantasy football community reacted with worry, pushing him down into the late stages of drafts throughout the summer. But he saw the field in Preseason Week 2 and helped to ease some of those concerns.
In one series as the starter, Jimmy Garoppolo led an efficient 68-yard touchdown drive lasting nine minutes. He was 4-for-4 for 39 yards, throwing to four different receivers. It was his first action since December 4th, and he appeared healthy and comfortable with the scheme. Right now, Garoppolo is leaving draft boards as the fantasy QB26 in the 15th round.

Jimmy Garoppolo showed flashes of fantasy success in San Francisco, with a hyper-accurate stat line that benefitted tremendously from Kyle Shanahan scheming his receivers open. With the likes of Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and later Christian McCaffrey, Garoppolo had some of the best yards-after-catch machines in all of football at his disposal. Despite this, his best fantasy season came in 2021 when he finished as the overall QB14, and he was on pace to finish 2022 as the QB19 in fantasy points per game, even with one of the best offensive environments in the NFL.

Las Vegas is a good landing spot for Garoppolo, who was not guaranteed a starting job as he entered free agency. He has a career of 8.3 yards per attempt, which is outstanding, but it’s not completely clear if he’s simply a beneficiary of Kyle Shanahan’s high-YPA offense. In Vegas, he’ll have Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow, and the newly-signed Jakobi Meyers to throw to, provided he’s healthy enough to play. He failed a physical this spring and underwent foot surgery after signing with the Raiders.
Apparently, the team can release Garoppolo without penalty if he can’t get healthy.

Jimmy Garoppolo is an American football quarterback. He was born on November 2, 1991, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Garoppolo attended Rolling Meadows High School, where he played football and basketball. His impressive performance on the football field earned him a scholarship to Eastern Illinois University. During his college career, Garoppolo set numerous records and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year twice.
In 2014, he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round of the NFL Draft. As a backup to Tom Brady, Garoppolo had limited playing time but still showcased his skills whenever he had the opportunity. In 2017, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers and became their starting quarterback. Garoppolo’s arrival brought new hope to the franchise, and he led the team to a five-game winning streak to end the season.
During the 2019 season, Garoppolo played a vital role in leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl, but unfortunately, they fell short of victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite facing some setbacks with injuries, Garoppolo has proven to be a talented and promising quarterback with the potential to lead his team to success in the future. His ability to read defenses, make accurate throws, and command the offense has earned him the respect of his teammates and coaches alike. With his strong arm and quick decision-making skills, Garoppolo will be a key player for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Who are some additional Raiders players to keep an eye on in fantasy football drafts?
Fantasy interest in Las Vegas starts up at the top of the draft, with wide receiver Davante Adams considered a solid selection around the 1st/2nd turn. It gets a little hairier behind him, with Jakobi Meyers an interesting WR4 pick in the double-digit rounds and possession receiver Hunter Renfrow basically a late-round flier in the 17th or 18th.
Josh Jacobs still appears to be in contract disputes with the team but still goes around the 2nd/3rd turn for fantasy drafters who don’t mind taking the risk after he led the league in touches last season.
