Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made his way back to practice last Wednesday. It was his first practice since being carted off with a right calf strain on July 27th. Now, it’s reported that he will be good to go for the Bengals Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns.
The injury was quite the scare to the team, as well as fantasy football managers, each party clearly concerned about Burrow’s previous torn ACL back in November of the 2020 season. Luckily, this turned out to be a completely different matter altogether, and it would seem that Burrow has made a full recovery after beat writers witnessed the quarterback operating without a calf sleeve while working with no hesitation during practice.
Per The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr.,
He’s been working behind closed doors for the last month and it’s not a coincidence the first practice involved with preparing for the regular season marked his return. They wanted to be 100 percent sure the calf fully healed to avoid aggravation.
Joe Burrow, Quarterback, Cincinnati Bengals, 4for4’s QB5 in Fantasy Football Rankings
Joe Burrow looked much more comfortable rushing with the ball in 2022, another year removed from his torn ACL. Both his attempts, rushing yards, and rushing first downs either nearly equaled or surpassed his first two seasons in the league combined. He also set a career-high in success rate, even with superstar wideout Ja’Marr Chase missing five games.
With Burrow taking part in the first practice involved with preparing for Week 1 of the regular season, we shouldn’t expect the quarterback to be limited in any way as we prepare for the kickoff of the fantasy football season.

Joe Burrow 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Burrow followed up a QB6 finish in 2021 with a QB4 finish last season. He has one of the best receiver duos in the league (Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins), and the Bengals have invested heavily in the offensive line in the last two offseasons. There’s no reason to believe that his production is going to fall off anytime soon. His QB5 positional ADP is entirely justified.
Who is quarterback Joe Burrow?
Joe Burrow is a talented young quarterback who rose to national prominence during his record-breaking senior season at Louisiana State University (LSU). Born and raised in Ohio, Burrow began playing football at a young age and quickly showed his potential.
After attending Ohio State University for two seasons, he transferred to LSU in 2018. It was during his senior year at LSU that Burrow truly made a name for himself. He led the Tigers to an undefeated season and a national championship title in 2019. Burrow’s remarkable performance earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Heisman Trophy.
His ability to read the game, make accurate throws, and his leadership qualities have caught the attention of NFL scouts. In the 2020 NFL Draft, Burrow was selected as the first overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. He has since become the face of the franchise and has shown promise since his rookie season.
Burrow’s calm demeanor, work ethic, and football knowledge have made him an exciting player to watch, and fans have high hopes for his future in the NFL. As he continues to develop and showcase his skills, Burrow is expected to have a significant impact on the league for years to come.
Who are some additional Bengals players to keep an eye on in fantasy football drafts?
Starting right up at the top of the draft, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been going as high as the No. 2 overall selection, and his ADP doesn’t drop much further than 1.04 across the fantasy landscape. His WR running mates aren’t any slouches either, as Tee Higgins typically goes in the top of the third round, and even WR3 Tyler Boyd makes for a good double-digit target.
After rumors of a contract dispute passed with Joe Mixon, fantasy drafters got more comfortable going back to him, as he now also has an ADP in the third round. Irv Smith Jr. finds himself further down on the pecking order but should be in common consideration when looking for touchdown-dependent streaming options during the season.
