Travelers Championship Second-Round Tee Times – Despite efforts to make the course play more difficult than in years past, the first round of the 2024 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands has played easier than the previous three first rounds at this venue. These ‘competitive enhancements’ were implemented in response to last year’s low scoring and Rory McIlroy’s comments about the layout’s obsolescence due to technology. While the course’s length remains the same, six holes have experienced substantial alterations.
With just a few golfers remaining on the course as of this writing, the scoring average on the day is 1.49 strokes under par, a bit harder than the 1.82 strokes under par that it played at last year but easier than the opening round of -0.73.
Travelers Payout Breakdown | Power Ranking the Field
It’s an eclectic leaderboard led by Tom Kim, who fired an opening round 62 (-8) and has a two-stroke lead on a handful of golfers at -6. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler returned to form after a sluggish performance at last week’s U.S. Open, firing a 5-under par 65 during the early wave on Thursday.
Despite being three shots behind Kim, Scheffler is still the prohibitive favorite in the betting markets at +250, half of what he was when the market opened on Monday morning. He hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation and gained nearly two strokes on the field with his putter, which is why the market sentiment is so strong despite being tied with or trailing nearly a dozen other golfers.

The 2024 Travelers Championship brings us to the last Pete Dye course of the season. The par-70 layout stretches out to 6,835 yards from the tips, the third-shortest course on Tour this season. In past years, we’ve seen a wide array of skill sets show up to Cromwell, Connecticut, and win, which is what Pete Dye sets out to do in all of his designs. Play the best for four days, and you win. Unlike the Memorial signature event a few weeks ago, the Travelers is a no-cut event.
