Phoenix Suns Draft Picks: List of 2024 and Future Draft Selections

The Phoenix Suns were swept out of the 1st round in the 2024 NBA Playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves and have a major offseason ahead. It starts with the draft. Take a look at the 2024 NBA Draft picks for the Suns, future selections, and more.

Phoenix Suns 2024 NBA Draft Picks

The Suns have one pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. They select at number 22 overall.

  • 1st Round: No. 22 – DaRon Holmes II – PF (Dayton)
  • Suns In Tough Spot with Salary Cap

Let’s call it like it is. The Suns are in a horrible salary cap situation. Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant will account for around $150 in 2024-25. The salary cap is expected to be around $141 million. They will easily hit the $172 luxury tax limit and could blow past the second level which is in the the $191 million area.

Phoenix went all in on their big three by giving up several first-round picks to build a roster with very little bench that wasn’t even close to reaching its goal of playing in the NBA Finals.

    Suns Future Draft Picks

To say the future draft pick situation is bleak would be a massive understatement. The Suns have absolutely nothing to work with moving forward. The team dished out all of its picks to acquire Kevin Durant a few seasons ago and Bradley Beal last offseason. So far, it has yielded zero titles and the team is in a salary cap bind.

The Suns currently have just one draft pick until 2030. YES. Just ONE.

  • 2028 – 2nd Round
  • This is a franchise that has huge decisions to make this offseason and in the coming years.

Will the Suns Trade Beal or Durant?

It sounds insane. Trade Kevin Durant? The Suns have limited options moving forward and are burdened by huge salaries from Durant, Booker, and Beal. Booker is the face of the franchise, so he isn’t going anywhere. Beal has a no-trade clause that might be hard to get him to waive.

That leaves Durant who scored 27.1 points per game in 2023-24 while shooting 52.3% from the field and 41.3% from three. He’s still an elite scorer who earned second-team All-NBA honors this past season, but he will be 36 years old next season.

There would be plenty of teams interested if the Suns decided to clear the cap space and continue moving forward with Devin Booker.

    Suns Recent Season Results

Things seemed to be on the rise in Phoenix after missing the playoffs from 2010 until 2020. The franchise reached the 2021 NBA Finals with the help of Devin Booker and Chris Paul but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks. The next season, Phoenix went 64-18 and looked like they were set to get a title but got knocked out in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks.

In 2023-24, the team added Bradley Beal to give another scoring option with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. The team took a step back and was swept out of the first round.

The franchise enjoyed success in the 2000s as they reached the Western Conference Finals several times with two-time MVP Steve Nash leading the squad at point guard. In the 1990s, they reached the postseason every year. The Suns reached the NBA Finals in 1993 with Charles Barkley where they lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

Phoenix joined the NBA in 1968 and has never won an NBA title. Take a look at the franchise’s recent records dating back to 1989.
