  • Atlanta Hawks Have No. 1 Pick

This is the first time the Atlanta Hawks have had the number 1 pick since all the way back in 1975. That season, they selected superstar David Thompson from NC State but he ended up joining the Denver Nuggets in the ABA.

In 1955, the Hawks selected Dick Ricketts at number 1 overall out of Duquense. This is back when they were the Milwaukee Hawks and they switched to the St. Louis Hawks before his first season. Ricketts played just 29 games in a Hawks uniform.

In 1952, the Milwaukee Hawks took Mark Workman number 1 overall and he played just 5 games with the team. The highest pick in the last decade for Atlanta was in 2018 when they drafted and traded Luka Doncic in a swap with the Mavericks to get Trae Young.

    Who Goes No. 1 Overall?

It is a battle of Frechmen at the top of the NBA Draft as most mocks have either Zaccharie Risacher or Alex Sarr going number 1 overall. They are ranked no. 1 and 2 on the ESPN Big Board. Risacher is versatile at the wing position with great length at 6’9″. He needs to bulk up but has a tremendous feel for the game.

Sarr is 7’0″ with a 9’2″ standing reach which means he has the potential to be a dominant rim protector in the league. He has already shown he can handle the ball and looks like he will develop a consistent jumper as well. His biggest impact will be as a pick-and-roll finisher and as an extremely versatile defender.

Reed Sheppard from Kentucky and Donovan Clingan from UConn are two of the highest-rated college players. Both are expected to go in the top 5 tonight.
