The Cleveland Browns were without quarterback Deshaun Watson in their Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and even after a bye week, Watson is still sidelined with a shoulder injury. Watson is among several key players for the Browns who will not practice today.
Will Deshaun Watson play this week?
Watson has been sidelined since the Cleveland’s Week 3 victory over the Tennessee Titans and will not practice today as he continues to deal with some bruising around his right (throwing arm) rotator cuff.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on today’s episode of The Insiders on NFL+, Watson was did some throwing off to the side on Tuesday, and that’s about what he expects from Cleveland’s quarterback today.
If Cleveland has to go without Watson again this weekend, expect veteran backup P.J. Walker to make the start. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson started in place of Watson in Clevenad’s 24-3 loss to Baltimore before the bye week, and the offense was largely ineffective. DTR threw for just 121 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions against the Ravens in Week 4.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said today that Watson is considered day-to-day and that Walker — who was cut by the Bears ahead of the regular season — will be the team’s No. 2 quarterback moving forward with Thompson-Robinson being de-elevated to QB3 status. Stefanski said that Watson will likely be a game-time decision against the 49ers on Sunday.
