NFL Notes: Another Early Sunday, NFL Week 6 Notable Injuries, SNL x NFL, More

Good morning! We’ve got another early start this week with the Titans and Ravens kicking off on NFL Network as I type this morning notebook up. Let’s get into some NFL Week 6 news, notes, and injuries before a 14-hour day of football.

  • But before we get into the Week 6 news and notes, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders got the Saturday Night Live treatment last night, and it was pretty funny!
  • The NFL on FOX crew also got the Saturday Night Live treatment as SNL poked fun at the NFL’s Taylor Swift Era, with a special guest appearance from Travis Kelce himself.
  • The Indianapolis Colts will try to beat the Jaguars in Jacksonville for the first time in nine years this afternoon, but they’ll do so without rookie QB Anthony Richardson who will miss at least the next four weeks with an AC joint sprain. Gardner Minshew will start in his place. Minshew is 3-0 in games started or finished due to injury to Richardson this season including a win over Baltimore last month.
  • Indianapolis will have some extra help today with Jonathan Taylor getting more involved in the game plan. Taylor was limited to six carries in his return last week but has been working toward a bigger role this week. Of course, Zack Moss had his best game last week, so he will get some significant run today as well.
  • The New England Patriots come into Week 6 banged up. There are 17 players listed on the injury report, with notable mentions of wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Demario Douglas. The Patriots have activated wide receivers Jalen Reagor and Tyquan Thornton. On Saturday, the Patriots signed Malik Cunningham to a three-year deal. It’s yet to be confirmed if he will play, as Bill Belichick said “they’re just looking for a spark somewhere.” Additionally, the Pats will be without three offensive linemen.
  • On the other side of that game, Davante Adams’ shoulder is feeling better this week and he will play against the Patriots. Vegas will be without cornerback Nate Hobbs. Cornerback Amik Robertson will play in his place again. Robertson had an interception against the Packers on Monday Night Football last week.
  • Dolphins running back De’Von Achane will miss the next four weeks with a knee injury. He was placed on IR earlier this week. Mike McDaniel says Raheem Mostert will get most of the work, but expect to see Chris Brooks and Salvon Ahmed, too.

  • The Panthers will be without running back Miles Sanders against the Dolphins this week. Chuba Hubbard will get most of the work out of the Panthers backfield. Carolina will also be without safeties Vonn Bell and Xavier Woods today.
  • On Sunday Night Football, the Giants will be without QB Daniel Jones, but there’s optimism that running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Darren Waller will play against the Bills. New York will also be without three starting offensive lineman including LT Andrew Thomas. This game has the potential to get ugly for the Giants.
  • The Cleveland Browns will be without quarterback Deshaun Watson when they take on the 49ers this week. Watson is dealing with deep bruising around the rotator cuff on his throwing arm. There were conflicting reports on Saturday about how long that injury will keep Watson out, and I would expect we gain some clarity this week, but for now, Watson is out and veteran P.J. Walker will start against the 49ers.
  • The Chicago Bears will be without running backs Khalil Herbert (ankle) and Roschon Johnson (concussion) against the Vikings today. Of course, the Vikings will be without wide receiver Justin Jefferson for the next four weeks (minimally) with a hamstring injury suffered in last week’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
