The Minnesota Vikings are trading for quarterback Josh Dobbs. Dobbs will likely backup Jaren Hall for the time being with starter with Kirk Cousins sidelined with an Achilles injury for the remainder of the 2023 season. Dobbs started the first eight games of the season for the Arizona Cardinals after they acquired him from the Cleveland Browns in the preseason.
Minnesota is sending a sixth-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Dobbs and a seventh-round pick.
Dobbs will provide the Vikings with a veteran quarterback who is well-traveled around the NFL and has been starting all season. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said that Minnesota is preparing to start Jaren Hall in Week 9.
Dobbs has thrown for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions this season and posted an 81.2 passer rating for the Cardinals this season. Dobbs played really well for Arizona early in the season but has cooled off of late.
Minnesota moved back to .500 on Sunday with a win over the Green Bay Packers and it’s clear that the Vikings still intend on fighting for a playoff berth this season.
For the Cardinals, Clayton Tune will start for Arizona this week, and eventually, Kyler Murray will be back in the starting role.
