2024 NFL Draft Order Notes

  • The Chicago Bears face a significant decision regarding their first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Initially, the choice seemed more straightforward, given Justin Fields’ early-season struggles and the team’s potential top-five pick. However, Fields’ return from injury, showing progress, and the Bears winning five of seven games have altered the situation.
  • Now, General Manager Ryan Poles has options. He could trade back from the No. 1 pick, acquiring additional assets to build around Fields. Alternatively, Poles could seize the opportunity to pair a top quarterback like Caleb Williams with star receiver DJ Moore, a formidable defense, and an above-average offensive line. In this scenario, Fields might become a high-profile trade chip during the offseason. The decision will likely impact the team’s future and draft strategy.
  • Over the past five years, Washington has been notably patient among QB-needy teams. This patience is now poised to pay off as they have an opportunity to select either Caleb Williams or North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.
  • If the Chicago Bears retain Justin Fields, Washington’s new ownership group and potential new coaching staff will have the chance to choose between two highly regarded college QB prospects. Both Williams and Maye are seen as players with the talent to swiftly elevate an offense, making this a significant opportunity for Washington to build a promising future.
  • The New England Patriots face some challenges with the departure of Bill Belichick as head coach after 24 years. Under new head coach Jerod Mayo, the team has the third overall pick in the draft. Robert Kraft, the team’s owner, has the opportunity to reassess the organization, make key hires, and potentially draft the next franchise quarterback.
  • The Chicago Bears, holding the first pick, can impact the Patriots’ options by choosing to draft Marvin Harrison Jr., select a quarterback, or trade down. The Patriots may then consider options like Harrison, the top tackle in the draft, or other moves to bolster their roster.
